At The Lake

One of the nice things about Massachusetts are the many lakes. You are never far from one. You can put your blanket under the shade of a tree and go build sand castles. You can look into the clear water and find fish! It is very peaceful at the lake.

Is It Ready?

While in the process of making breakfast I was asked when breakfast will be ready. She then took off her sunglasses, smiled and crossed her eyes. She is very funny!

Dental School

The things we learn from play-doh! After making ice cream that creates cavities, we then learn how to fill those cavities. They had a lot of fun making dental molds and filling the cavities. I do believe that dried play-doh is harder than any dental implant material on the market.

Ice Cream Shop

The creative folks at play-doh, have an ice cream maker. The best part is the sprinkler maker that takes a block of play-doh and grinds it into crumbs. I had green sprinkles, red sprinkles, blue sprinkles, pink sprinkles and rainbow sprinkles. The best part was that no sprinkles went to waste. Why even the rug had a topping of sprinkles. I only wish that the toy engineers that created this toy could share my joy in picking the play-doh out from the rug.

How The War Was Lost

The military experts from the Maine artillery company took defending the coast very literally.

Super Heroes Wear Capes

I was told that super heroes wear capes. And that the good guys have turkeys on their shoulders. Heroes have changed from when I was a boy!

The Chef

The difference between a cook and a chef is the chef's hat. If a man is going to wear an apron, it is best to wear a chef's hat to go with it.

Boston Baked Beans

Summer in Boston. When the outside temperature gets hot, it is sizlin in the underground subway tunnels. Charlie maybe the man who never returned to avoid the suffocating heat of the subway tunnels.

Wherever I Am

Wherever I am, he wants to be there. Wherever I go, he wants to go. Whatever I do, he wants to do. When I get down on the floor with him and hold him and touch heads with him I can hear him sigh. He will be 12 years old next month. I know that I don't have that much more time left with him, and that is the part that hurts the most.

Horsing Around

The middle ages is not a period of time that refers to those who are middle aged. But it is a timeless period where we can pretend to be knights, wear cool armor, carry swords and do lots of manly cool stuff!

A Tale Of Two Knights

I like the idea of discovery museums. There is something about reaching out and touching that makes the memory of it last longer.

The Wooden Horse

When I was a boy, I had a wooden horse. As I got taller, I was able to make my horse taller by screwing an old mop handle onto the horse. So when I saw the wooden horse, standing in a corner, it was back to the Lone Ranger days for me.

Your Move

I like the way kids play chess! It is more fun to move your players by riding them.

The Art Of The Glue Stick

There I was, applying the sticky messy stuff when one boy had to show me how good of a job he had done. He said "See this"! And I turned into a glob of smeared glue stick, generously applied to construction paper that was stuck to my arm. When it comes to arts and crafts, I need to be more crafty.

The Storyteller

At the Higgins Armory museum there is a great storyteller. He picks up a six foot sword. Turns to the kids in the audience. Points the sword to the upper left corner of the room. And as he slowly turns he says "It's a good day to die today, who wants to die today"! And all the kids raise their hands and say "I Do"!

If I Could

If I could see the world through the eyes of a child, what a wonderful world it would be!

Plummet Falls

Eric turned five today! What better way to celebrate your birthday than with a cool water slide and a whole bunch of your friends. When I was a boy, we turned on the sprinkler and ran through it. We also hosed down the hill and slid down the grass. The water slide is definitely cooler!
