Kings Row

When I was a boy, I played checkers everyday with my grandfather. He had a standing prize of $1, if I ever beat him. His problem was that he always had the same three opening moves. I used these moves to trap him and win the prize. Now the tables are turned on me. I am being challenged by a five year old strategist. I might have to call the dog and have him knock over the board.

Do You Believe In Magic?

We live inside, the Magic Kingdom. As she paints, her left hand rests securely upon the magical teapot. And you know, it is the magic of others that helps in life, even if we are painting.

vive la différence

One of the differences between boys and girls, is color. The Princess wears so many bright colors that she can be identified from a distance. I believe in color therapy, that being around bright colors will make your world and your outlook a lot more brighter.

The Big Rock

When I was a boy, there was a big hill in my yard. Many years later, when I revisited the house I grew up in, I discovered that this big hill was only five feet tall and wasn't steep at all. It's odd to discover that some of the biggest obstacles in your life, turn out never to be really big at all.

Explorers

The new world was discovered by three brave explorers. They were searching for treasure. Sticks and stones to throw in the water. Rocks to climb up and then slide down. Trails on the side of hills that were covered with leaves, so you could run and slide. This is a real amusement park. Admission is free and you are guaranteed to be amused.

The Big Splash Theory

Grampy, listen to the sound my stone makes when it hits the water. Can you do that? I love the look of excitement on their faces as they share their "new" discoveries with me. And I smile back, and thank them in my heart for helping me to connect with my own boyhood memories, that seem so long ago.

Duck Tails

They thought it was fun to stand on a bridge and drop sticks into the water. Until I told them to run to the other side of the bridge and watch your stick go under the bridge and come out. I have discovered that there is still a little boy within me, that still enjoys watching my stick float on the water.

Man Food

Real Maple syrup! From the tree, to the Maple Sugar Barn and then to your plate. Real pancakes, not out of a box with water added. Real Butter, nothing that was extracted from a dandelion or a sunflower. I asked him if he liked it. While still chewing he nodded his head and then he smiled. That's why they call it comfort food!
