The Doll House

She loved sitting in front of the mirror with Grammy and having her face painted. Then it was off with Grampy to discover the baby farm animals and to discover a "doll house" that was so big that you could walk in it. It had a play stove, refrigerator, chairs, tables and of course, a teapot.

The teapot really amazed her, she would take the plates, put the cups on them and pour us each a drink. While looking up at me to see if my cup needed to be refilled.

In my heart, she will never grow up, she will stay forever young.

The Man In The Straw Hat

He looks "cool" in anything and everything he wears! And right now, he happens to love hats!

His favorite hat is a RedSox baseball hat that he wears backwards on his head. The only hat I had close to his age, was my Davey Crockett hat! Ah yes, when I was a lad, we had heroes that were larger than life!

Interactive Reading

There are rewards to reading stories to children.

Especially when someone climbs up behind you and gives you a great big hug!

Something has happened between children and grandchildren. I don't remember all of the little things that I did with my children very well. That's why we have grandchildren, so they can help us recall those little things. I can't tell you the names of the books that we read to the grandchildren, but I can recall the smiles on their faces, their laughter, their climbing on our laps, and the best of all, their hugs.

Busy As A Beaver

Beavers are protected in Massachusetts. They are amazing engineers and they love their work.

But the people that live around them hate having to deal with the flooding that they cause.

I happen to walk Buddy on conservation land where we frequently see the trees that they are chewing down.

Just yesterday, this was a solid tree.

Iz Mine

The current phrase is "it's mine"!

I guess that women know at a very young age that everything is theirs, and why shouldn't it be?

Driftwood

There goes the stick!! It's about to go over the waterfall.

So they take a stick, throw it in the water and watch it be carried away over a dam, and then they look up at you and ask, "where did it go"?

Exploring

The theme for the day was "exploring". Looking for hawks in the sky and ducks on the pond. Throwing stones in the water and making ripples.

Being explorers was fun! Grammy had great nature stories. Immerse a child in nature, walk with them and talk with them and you will grow closer together.

Flat Sandwiches

I knew Ethan couldn't eat a whole sandwich. So I took one slice of bread and on one side I put peanut butter and jam on the other. I then folded it together for him.

He said he couldn't eat it because it was "rolled". I asked what he meant and he said he wanted a flat sandwich with two pieces of bread.

Big boys have to have flat sandwiches.
